I have been using a Palm Pilot since I forget when. My Palm has been my constant companion for a lot of years, has held important details of my life, addresses, calendar, games and books . . . lots of books. On my last phone upgrade I did a bunch of research trying to decide between Palm and Blackberry. I ultimately decided on the Palm Treo because of all those applications I had accumulated over the years, not to mention the books. And it would sync with my ACT contact database.
What a difference a year and a few months make. I’m no longer using ACT (another traumatic change), and because of a glitch in the Palm software I can no longer sync it with my contacts & calender. In fact, it loses contacts when I sync, and I won’t discover it until I go to make a call. SOOO frustrating. So today, my phone upgrade arrives, and it’s a Blackberry. Goodbye Palm OS.
Now here’s hoping I can read my books on the Blackberry. Or on something else, maybe Kindle? I’m sad to say goodbye to an old friend, but I’m about to discover a new one.

You are NOT alone in your phone/database sync frustration. I loved ACT for years, they got bought by somebody and the software tanked.
And its as if the concept of wanting to sync your database to your phone is so foreign to them! They never have a sync software update to match the phones for sale…”oh that’ll be a few months…we think!”
I had Outlook 2003 after ACT!, tried 2007, crapped out entirely, had to go back to 03. Want a really funny/pathetic sales experience? Try calling Sales Force dot com and asking them about syncing up their software with a phone.
No speak english
No understand sync.
I’ve got an AT&T Tilt phone now…headaches are almost over 4 months later.
Sheesh!
Best always,

Hey Peter,
Isn’t it a shame what happened to ACT? I used it and loved it for years, now it’s just a mess.
I think I’m liking this Blackberry Curve though. It’s pretty seamless with Outlook, I’m getting email and my calendar and contacts without a hitch. What a treat!

Yeah, it’s time. Palm hasn’t updated in their software in years. I was a big fan of Palm PDA’s, but then I moved over to Windows Mobile. Now I’m checking out the new BB’s coming out, and I wonder why I’ve been torturing myself with these outdated bricks.
The transition will sting a bit, but in the end I think you’ll like it.
As for books, I just picked up a Sony reader, and it’s really cool. If you read as voraciously as the wife and I do, once you pick one up you’ll never want to put it down. The screens are A-MAZE-ING, easily as good as the printed page, and SO much easier on the eyes (especially compared to pda screens).
I got the Sony because Amazon was out of Kindle stock (and it was $100 cheaper), but really anything with digital ink should look fab!
